Are eye tests bulk-billed?
Yes, if you have a Medicare card this will cover the cost of a normal eye test. If additional testing or equipment is required, gap payments apply.
How should I clean my glasses?
- Spray both sides of the lenses with lens cleaning spray
- Gently wipe the lenses with a clean tissue to remove the lens spray
- Finish by wiping the lenses with a lens cleaning cloth
Why do I need to use the lens spray?
The glasses lenses accumulate dirt and dust. Without the spray, a tissue or cloth will pull the dirt and dust across the lenses, causing scratches.
What if I run out of lens spray?
Rinse the lenses under running water or put a drop of dishwashing liquid on the lenses and then rinse with water.
Won’t tissues scratch my lenses?
Not if they are wet with lens spray or water. Tissues can scratch the lenses if the lenses are dry and dirty, so the lenses must be sprayed or rinsed first.
Shouldn’t I just use the lens cleaning cloth instead of tissues?
This will work fine at first, but over time the cleaning cloth will become dirty and then can actually start to scratch your lenses. It is recommended to replace the cleaning cloth every 3 months for this reason. By using tissues first and then the cleaning cloth, the cleaning cloth will stay clean for much longer.

How long does an eye test take?
A standard eyetest appointment is booked for 30 minutes. For diabetes, glaucoma or VicRoads patients, two appointments are generally needed as not all tests are able to be performed within a thirty minute appointment. Diabetic patients will have dilating eye drops put in their eyes at the second appointment which blurs vision and can prevent driving for several hours afterwards.
